TradingView Supercharts: all you need to know
As comprehensive as it is, the TradingView chart is simple in its basis — the bottom scale shows you the time and the right scale shows an asset's price. It's the perfect tool to track how price changes over time, but there's so much more that you can do with our charts that will help you make the best decisions. Let's take a look at the basics of managing the chart to help you maximize its features.
Superchart consists of three toolbars and a panel at the bottom, each with a unique purpose.
- The upper toolbar: Allows you to set up your chart by choosing symbols, chart types, indicators, layouts, etc.
- The left toolbar: The Drawings panel with powerful built-in instruments
- The right toolbar: Gives you access to watchlists, news, alerts, screeners, etc.
- The bottom panel: Allows you to switch between intervals, set the timezone, and customize the price scale
The upper toolbar
Let's go from left to right and look at every button and its functions.

Symbol Search
Here, you can look for a symbol to display on the chart. There are two ways to open the Symbol Search:
- Click on the button with a magnifying glass icon
- Start typing the symbol. For example, to open the US Dollar Index chart, type "DXY," and the "Symbol Search" window will open

Compare or Add Symbol
This button allows you to choose an additional symbol to display on the chart together with the current symbol. The feature helps you compare assets on one chart for a more comprehensive analysis.

Time Interval
Each time interval represents a "step" in time for the price — it can be from one second to months. Depending on the chart type, each with a unique visualization approach, time intervals will be plotted as bars, candlesticks, etc.
If you use a line chart, the line is constructed by connecting the prices within the selected interval. With bar or candlestick charts, each bar or candlestick will represent prices over that particular time period.

Chart type
Here, you can choose the chart type that better fits your analytical approach. From classic bars and candles to more sophisticated options like Renko charts — explore how to use different chart types in our Knowledge base.

Indicators, metrics, and strategies
From here, you gear up your trading. These powerful tools provide essential insights to help you navigate the market.
- Indicators: Functions used in technical analysis to predict future prices based on their movements and assets' trading volume
- Financials: Financial data for fundamental analysis is derived from a company's performance report
- Strategies: Specific scripts written in Pine Script® language. They can send, modify, execute, and cancel buy or sell orders and simulate real trading right on your chart
Save any of them as your favorite by pressing on a star icon for quick access.

With indicator templates, you can save your chosen indicators for later use. When saving, you can also remember the symbol and interval so you can load them simultaneously with the template. Click "Open template" to see the "Indicator templates" window and manage your templates.

Create alert
This feature allows you to set up alerts and manage their notifications. With these essential instruments, you'll always keep track of prices, indicators, strategies, or drawings. You can choose the condition that'll trigger the alert, its expiration date, leave a message alongside it, and much more.

Bar Replay
Bar Replay enables users to simulate past price movements for strategy testing. You can go back in time to analyze historical market behavior and practice trading decisions and strategies without real financial exposure.
All changes on the chart can be managed with the help of the "Undo" and "Redo" buttons.
Layouts
In the "Layout setup" menu, you can configure the number and placement of charts. In its essence, a layout is a separately saved workspace. Each chart within a layout retains its own settings and can be customized independently, but you can also choose to sync them.

The arrow next to the layout's name opens the setting drop-down where you can manage your layout. Remember to save the changes you make to avoid losing your progress. Here, you can also rename your chart, share and copy it, export data, create a new layout or open one of previously saved layouts.
To learn more on how to manage layouts, check our Knowledge base.
Quick Search
To facilitate navigation, click on the "Quick Search" button. This is an easy way to find tools, functions, drawings, or settings.

Settings
You can configure the chart as you desire. To open the settings menu, click the "Settings" button at the top right corner or double-click on the price line/bar/candlestick.

In the settings menu, you can apply changes to:
- Symbol: Set the parameters for the chart type. Each chart type behaves differently, and unique settings apply to each. Learn more about chart types with our Knowledge base

After you've set up your chart, you can view it in fullscreen mode. The button is located next to the chart's settings and allows you to analyze the chart without any additional noise.

The bottom panel
Here, you'll find time intervals, timezone, and scale settings.

Under the time scale, you can find the preset intervals to fit your screen. Selecting 1D, for example, adjusts the chart so that one trading day is displayed by using one minute intervals. Pressing "All" displays all available historical data with a monthly interval. If none of the intervals suit you, you can go to a specific date or create a custom range in the "Go to" menu.

In Timezone settings, you can choose which time is displayed on the chart. Select "Exchange" to match the time to the relevant trading exchange.
You will also see the gear button near the timezone setting. It opens the price scale settings, where you can set its mode, select what labels to display, and more.
